The World Energy Council among the participants of the Russian Energy Week International Forum

The World Energy Council was among the participants of the Russian Energy Week International Forum, which took place on 13–15 October 2021 at the Manege Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow. The Forum was organized by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and the Roscongress Foundation, and the event was held as part of the Year of Science and Technology in Russia.

Secretary General and CEO of the World Energy Council Angela Wilkinson took part in the sessions on ‘Small Modular Reactors, Energy Supply for Regions and Industry Sector’ and ‘Russia-2060: Perspectives of Green Energy’ on 13 October. Participants discussed the energy transition, the climate agenda and the importance of abiding by the principles of responsible consumption and environmentally friendly approaches to power generation.

On 14 October, Dr. Wilkinson moderated the session on ‘Rebooting Energy for Cities and Communities: Implementing the Energy Transition at All Levels of Society’. The meeting was part of the ‘Road to Congress’ series, which marked the run up to the 25th World Energy Congress. The Congress will be held from 24 to 27 October 2022 in St. Petersburg under the general theme of ‘Energy for Humanity’.

“Russian Energy Week is one of the key international platforms for discussing the current energy agenda and outlining strategic directions for the development of the fuel and energy sector. It is significant that REW 2021 took place almost exactly a year before the 25th edition of the Congress, which itself will be timed to coincide with the centenary of the World Energy Council. The Forum provided a platform for interesting discussions that will continue at the World Energy Congress 2022,” said Dr. Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General and CEO of the World Energy Council.

During her visit, Dr. Wilkinson met with heads of energy companies and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, and gave interviews to leading Russian and international media representatives.
